Let’s just talk… about directories

May 31st, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in guides

Alright, so I decided to right a post all about submitting to directories. Some of you may be wondering whether or not you should pay $50 for 1,500 submissions to directories. Others may be wondering if paying for featured links, or paying for a link in a well-known high pr directory is ever worth the money. After doing quite a bit of research, I have discovered an answer to all of these questions. Yes, that is what you get one you go around all day scouring webmaster forums for the information. Hopefully this makes it easier for all of you, who can now just read this post and get all the information you need from it… hopefully is a key word here. I’m still not sure if my posts are quality, and clear to where all of you blog readers could understand what I’m saying exactly.

  • Featured Directory Links: These are great, depending on how much traffic the directory gets, what pr the directory is, and how much the featured link costs exactly. Most people prefer a couple of featured/high quality directory links over paying $50 to 1,500 low ranking directories.
    • Make sure you check where featured links are displayed on the site, to make sure you don’t get jipped money-wise.
    • A featured directory link should get you traffic, and a high authority backlink for your site, if it doesn’t guarantee that you will get just that, then don’t purchase the link!
  • Paying for directory submission: Sure, getting submitted to loads of directories for a small price couldn’t hurt your site, but it could hurt your wallet, and you never really know how well it could help you. $50 for submission to 1,500 directories or something like that sounds like a great price, but you have to consider the authority of all of those directories! They could all be pr 0, and hardly help your site out at all… not saying they won’t help. Like I said above, paying for a few really good directory submissions can help you out a lot more than paying for multiple directory submissions.

Here’s a little alexa tool you can check those directories out with.

10 “Do Nots” For SEO noobs

May 31st, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in guides

Here is a list of 10 things that will hurt your seo, instead of helping you.

  1. Don’t link to site’s that are not related to your site at all, they should at least be in the same general niche.  Linking to anybody leads to link farming, and link farming is bad… we know that from a past article.
  2.  Don’t change google adsense codes, that could even get you banned from the google search engine all together.
  3. Don’t keyword stuff… which means you shouldn’t add a bunch of random keywords on your page, that lowers your SEO ranking.
  4. Don’t cloak your site, or any of it’s pages.  (Whatever that means, make sure your not doing it :) )
  5. Don’t use duplicate content.  (Stuff ripped from other websites, and sometimes articles from article submission sites)
  6. Don’t change domains unless absolutely necessary, that’s like restarting your site’s SEO completely!
  7. Do not buy money making ebooks that say they will help you to make $500,000 a week, it’s complete bs and will only keep you away from all the real work you should be doing.
  8. Ignore 90% of what you read in forums. most of its second hand knowledge and is very outdated.
You won’t understand the search engines properly unless you experiment yourself. [quote - amnezia]  Of course forum information is always ok but amnezia’s words are great.
  9. Don’t ever pay for any SEO help, learn about it yourself (from here…) it’s quite easy really.
  10. Don’t pay $50 for a directory link, pay for links that will increase your pagerank (counting as a good link) and ones that could potentially bring you traffic as well.  (People that like your site may leave natural links to your site, you have to have traffic to get natural links)

Don’t expect to see results from your SEO improving efforts right away, things don’t happen over night in the webmaster world.  One must wait for all of those pr checks, search engine spiders, and such.

Request a List (A few site updates)

May 30th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Site Announcements
  1. Alright, usually all the lists I’ve made for the blog have turned out to be great hits, so now I’m looking for you, the blog readers, to suggest a list for me to make on one of the next blog posts. Just comment on this post with a suggestion of course, unless there is some other way you feel is necessary to do this?
  2. I’m going to be changing the way our url is viewed as, as well. Right now, the urls are seen as webjedis.com/p=56 or something like, that, I’m going to be changing them so the links are to the name’s of the posts I’ve made.
  3. A contest, I’m going to get a contest going, once we get some extreme traffic piling in, unfortunately, I haven’t been taking my own advice lately, and the site is not a real success. So for the next few weeks/months I’m going to be working hard on my 2 top priority sites. ( Web Jedis, and No Games Allowed).
  4. I’m also thinking of removing the forums, since nobody ever uses it, and I don’t think there is a need for something we don’t even use! Do you?

If you have any questions, or suggestions on the changes I’m planning on making, then please do tell me then as soon as possible.

peaces,

Learning Php and Why its Important

May 29th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in coding

Most professionals in the webmastering buisness know 2 types of code Html/Css and PHP. I know most of yall have heard of php but looked at a snippet and thought it was too hard. Well you mastered english didnt you? So php is no problem since it is english!

The main function (in my opinion) of php is to get data from a database and display it. Of course there are conditions to it like if the user is logged on or not, but the main function is to display some sort of content.

Why do you need to learn php? Well it is used almost on every prospering website! Wikipedia.com is my favorite example because it uses the fundamentals of php and makes it powerful. Also the new world of Web 2.0 is emerging, meaning you better start making you site interactive!
I can prove that php is both simple and understandable!

<?php

echo “hello world!”;

?>

the output above would be “hello world!” without the quotes. This is my first article and i hoped you enjoyed it.

Viruses

May 28th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in guides

Ok, I just did a huge computer cleanup the other day, virus scans, defragmented it, and all of that stuff.  Apparently I had some pretty bad stuff on my old laptop.  I was using, probably the worst anti-virus, and had absolutely no anti-spyware software on my computer at all.  I found about 220 total corrupted/messed up files on my computer just the other day, and I think I should share my knowledge with you guys so you don’t have to worry about having your credit card information stolen or anything like that. So now, I’m going to give you a guide, on how to clean up your computer for free, using the methods I paid to learn from some computer techy guy.

First, your going to want to get all the viruses and scummy stuff off of your computers.  So go to lavasoftusa and you can download my new favorite, virus/spy ware scanner ad aware se.  The program is free, so you don’t have to worry about purchasing something over the internet or anything like that.  Another program the guy said was really good, is nod32… which I have yet to try, but I would like too.  Unfortunately, nod32 only comes with a free trial, and you end up paying after the first 30 days of use.

Now, after downloading and installing the program, your going to want to configure it to fit your wants and needs.  Just make sure any common sense answers are checked, unfortunately I can’t remember what the guy had to configure for me and I’m really just way to lazy for my own good.  The configuration shouldn’t matter to much though, as long as it’s set to scan and remove your viruses right!?

Your scan settings should be set to a full system scan, and you should make sure and check “scan for low-threat objects” as well.  You wanna make sure and make all the bad stuff in your computer go away right?  Later on you can go back and set up custom scans, and just scan separate things if you want.

So now your scanning your computer for all these viruses, and once the scan is complete it will move everything into a quarantine list.  What your going to want to do is check all the files you want to delete directly after the scan is complete, click next, and then delete all the stuff that you checked.

Hopefully, the scanner got all your viruses on one scan, but sometimes it misses them on the first scan, so you should go over and scan the entire system again.  You should also continue to run scans once every couple of days, to make sure you don’t pick up any more potentially harmful viruses, malware, or other malicious files.

Now, to increase your systems performance, we’re going to defragment, defragment, and defragment some more, until you get a solid block of blue in your defragment analysis window.  Here’s instructions on how to get to the defragment window.
Go to:

  1. Start
  2. My computer
  3. Control Panel
  4.  Performance and Maintenance
  5. Rearrange items on your hard disk to make programs run faster.

That should take you to the defragment window so you can defrag your computer, as many times as it takes to get a solid block of blue.  Red files are bad, the defrag should fix up your computer and make it so everything is grouped together, taking out the bad stuff.

After doing that a few times, your computer should run a lot faster.

By the way, defragging takes a very long time the first time you do it, but will get quicker each time you do it.

New Rant and Random Service Available

May 27th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Site Announcements

If you ever feel like clearing your throat, getting something out, or screaming into a pillow… then check out randomsauce.com
It’s a totally new site I just created, so you can log in, and right away make a post about whatever weird thing you could possibly think of!  It’s like a rule-free board in a forum, except you still can’t just shamelessly advertise, post porn, or virus download links of course :).

But yea, hopefully it turns out cool… I have a lot of fun on a forum that we just spam loads on, so I figured I would create a spam blog where everybody could contribute to it!

Post how your day was, post how your life is, post some weird story from your childhood, post some made up story, post a love song for your future wife… whatever you want!

Write for the poor

May 26th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Site Announcements

Send me a completely unique post to add to the webjedis.com blog, and I’ll pay you $1.00…
at gunahound@gmail.com

It’s a good deal for you since I don’t make anything off these posts… not yet though.

By the way, I’ll only pay you if I use it, and you have to promise not to submit it to article submission site’s or anything like that.

If the blog contains a link or two, that are for your sites… you actually have to pay me $1.00 and that’s still a great price :)
anyways,
