Laptop Vs. Computer

June 25th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in guides

Alright, I’m just going to get straight to the point on this one…

By listing the pros and cons, or reasons that one would be a laptop > desktop or desktop > laptop right here.

Laptops: Downsides to Desktops-

  •  The only reason for having a laptop would be for its portability really.
  • If your going back and forth between houses, you want something to do at grandma’s house, or something for the plane.  The portability works out great for things like this.
  • For college, one can take their laptop to school and easily take notes on what the teacher is saying.  This serves as a double feature for guys who wanna do power points and show them to their boss, or take notes at a meeting.
  • House portability: Yea, great you can take your laptop with you while your doing your business… although I don’t advice it.  I’ve found it useful when I want to show my dad something and he’s just too lazy to get up off of the couch and come look at the computer in my room.
  • Laptops take up less space than a regular computer err desktop would.
  • Another great reason for having a laptop would be because you can, I mean… if you can afford it and you like the laptop so much better than a regular desktop then buy it (of course you should make sure it works for what you want to do with it as well)
  • For all of this portability we’ve been talking about, your going to want to make sure you have a pretty good battery in all the places you can’t just plug the laptop in.

Desktops: Downsides to Laptops-

  • Laptops don’t have very much space, and in general can’t hold as much of that useless crap everybody insists on downloading on their computers.  Of course I download all of that crap too ;) but still, an expensive laptop seems to have a decent amount of space.
  • Laptops are generally a lot more expensive than regular desktops and come with less attractive system specs and a price that doesn’t really seem to match.  So expect Desktops to be a lot more powerful than laptops are going to be.
  • Gamers Rejoice, desktops are teh pwnage for playing games… assuming you get a nice expensive one, yes… everything has got to be expensive if you want them to work really well.

Once again, I feel short… that’s all I could come up with :) but that’s all good enough right?

Alien Found Hidden Among McDonalds Employees

June 22nd, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in guides

Alright, I had to share this with you guys since I found it so interesting, and the best part is… you can find the same article in any popular newspaper around where you live… unless they try to cover things up again. Anyways, here’s my take on the whole story.

In New York, just yesterday (6/22/07) a young boy and his mother decided to go into McDonalds and maybe get some chicken nuggets, and a hamburger. Things turned out a lot differently then they had originally planned though.

“I was in the middle of ordering when my son began tugging on my shirt” Jessica Celfane tells the reporters. Obviously she was shocked at what the boy said next.

“Mommy, mommy! What’s that green stuff on his neck!?” The boy yells up at his mother after seeing green on the employee’s neck. The mother tried to quiet the boy and stop him from being rude, but then noticed the green herself on the man’s neck herself. Apparently, it appeared that a flap of human skin or a costume, had been folded up and the green alien skin was being shown underneath it.

“I had to scream when I saw it, it was just so creepy and disgusting” the mother tells us about her reaction to seeing the aliens true colors.

After the alien knew it had been discovered, it seemed to melt the human skin off of it and then revealed its whole green body. The creature was green of course, frog-like, seemed to have gills on both sides of its face, and had a huge mouth lined with 3 rows of teeth. It was kind of hunched over, thin, and bony according the the young boy and his mother.

They say it seemed to teleport out o f the building, and we have yet to receive any more news on the creature. Keep on the lookout for other aliens posing as human beings!

haha, ok… so you may have figured out by now that that article was not real at all…

-and probably because I suck at writing them, which is why I own a webmaster blog instead of a fake news article website

Alright, so this article is an example of one of those articles you’ll read in Weekly World News or some sort of fictional magazine/book. There are a couple websites that use fake articles to make a profit, and some of them never really let you know that they’re fake. If you could fool people into believing your articles, people stay entranced in your ‘realistic’ fantasy world, and sometimes just thinking up the articles is fun. Of course you have to have somewhat of a talent for writing them, or they’ll come out as crappy and unbelievable as mine did! Grr…

Battle of the Web Browsers

June 19th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in guides

Alright, there are two different kinds of web browsers. The first one being a sucky old web browser, and the second one being a brilliant, and much better, newer web browser. Many of you out there that use internet explorer… (even though newer version) may hate me for saying this, but internet explorer is the browser classified as sucky and old. Everything about internet explorer is so ancient you guys probably don’t even know.

  • Internet Explorer displays white on all of the png images in a website… so if you go to nogamesallowed.com in internet explorer the buttons are going to look all screwed up, in firefox everything is crystal clear and looks beautiful like it’s meant too. :)

Advertising Methods worth the money and not… with reason

June 19th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in Advertising Networks

Alright, I’m just going to list a bunch of methods of advertising that are worth the money, and aren’t worth the money… which is pretty much what the title tells you. Correct? Yes… let’s continue.

The Bad Methods:

  1. Myspace bulletins: never bring in any traffic… are you ever tempted to click those damn links?
  2. Traffic trade: nobody stays on your website, they do what you do and leave as soon as possible.
  3. Sticky Notes over toilets in public restrooms: Yea, no soliciting while I’m peeing k?
  4. Video Advertising: Could be good, could be bad… your going to need a pretty big following, and there has to be something on the video that people would want more of on your website!
  5. Purchasing Traffic: Most of the time it’s just a scam, or the same guy refreshing the page over and over again… yea it’s not worth it at all.
  6. Shirts: Minus the cost of the shirts… yea you get nothing. Unless you have some really good shirts at your website and you want people to come to it to buy shirts!

The Good Methods:

  1. Yahoo Groups: Submitting to Yahoo Groups seems to work a lot better than posting myspace bulletins, and get’s some nice conversion rates.
  2. Blog Reviews: Blog reviews are a bonus for traffic, and a nice backlink… well, depending on the blog your getting the review on. The higher the traffic + pr of that blog, the more valuable your link is on that blog.
  3. Advertising Forums: There are a few forums that are specifically for advertising your websites, these sites… and any other forums that have a section where you could showcase your website actually seem to work out nicely.
  4. Word of Mouth: Of course if you’ve got some friends, than by all means tell them about your sites… they may even be stoked that you made one and then just tell everyone about it!
  5. TV Advertising: Not sure how much this costs, but I know it would convert like crazy! Or even if it didn’t, you’d still rake in millions of visitors depending on how appealing the commercial was.
  6. Featured Directory Submissions: I haven’t had to much luck with this sort of thing at all, but I’ve heard about a lot of people having success with it.
  7. Digg.com: Digg, stumble, or any of those other social networking sites are great… you may even receive the digg affect, where your article get’s featured and you get overloaded with traffic!
  8. Article Submission: Getting articles out to many different sites is sure to get you some good backlinks, and some potential traffic… I’ve done it and it worked out for a while!

Well, that’s all for now, hopefully the list can help you guys out!

Plan Your Projects

June 18th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in guides

Whenever your thinking about making a site, or project on a spurr of the moment type of feeling, I highly recommend that you think again.  You’ve got to seriously think a lot about new projects, and there are a lot of aspects of the project that you must keep in mind.

Here is a list of things to think about before starting a website:

  1. Will you stay interested in the project?
  2. Do you have the time for the project?
  3. Are you willing to work hard on it to get it into the phase where you start earning all of your money back?
  4. Do you even think it will profit?
  5. Is there a large market for the subject?
  6. Is it a unique topic… or turnkey?
  7. Have you studied up on how to advertise your specific project?
  8. Have you made the content before purchasing the domain/host for the project?
  9. Do you have too many projects already?
  10. Is there anything that will sidetrack you from your new project?
  • Can you devote the time needed!!!?

Popups… Upsides + Downsides

June 18th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in guides

Being this segment of the blog written about popups, the upsides and the downsides… you can be fully aware that there are not many upsides at all to using popups.  Seeing as everyone hates popups and they are a perfectly good reason to get the hell off of a not-so-important website.  Sure, maybe just one popup for everytime someone comes on the site… and not one for every pageload would be… O.K. but even that would be considered to much in my eye.

Upsides to Popups:
popups are wonderful because:

  1.  Increase profit if all visitors aren’t scared away
  2. Don’t slow down a site by taking away 75% of it’s speed away
  3. some loyal users stay at your site

Downsides to Popups
popups should go jump off a cliff because:

  1. Everyone hates popups, your going to lose visitors
  2. Less visitors = less profit
  3. Less people to see your popups = less people to click your regular ads
  4. You lose credibility, and your site looks less proffesional
  5. Totally slows down the website
  6. Get’s you banned from directories
  7. Get’s you banned from traffic sending services (Oh goody)
  8. Looks tacky, feels tacky… and makes the users feel bad about themselves (I’m not kidding)
  • also, they stick to your shoe when you step on them… so you need to make sure to clean up after yourself.

Alright, so this was another seemingly half-ass post, but I assure you it was for a good reason.  It was to try to get it across to you that pop ups are bad for your soul… for your website, and for your visitors!  I highly recommend that all you webmasters out there keep your hands off the popups and just leave them be.  If you ever pick up the popup method and use it on your site your going to drop it and burn a hole through your website…

But it’s not to late, maybe a bandage will fix it?

Summer Internet Death

June 18th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in rants

Agh, I absolutely hate it, and I blame it for mass drops in traffic. Not exactly for this site, but for arcade sites… I feel for anyone who owns an arcade site.  All kids sites, arcade sites… and entertainment sites are getting severe drops in traffic right now.  Everybody has decided to forget their computers and abandon them at home to go to the beach and have fun in the sun.  Except for of course… me, and you, and that guy over their who just got home from the beach!

Here’s a list of reasons why sites lose traffic in summer~

summer vacation duh…

  1. kids are out of school, no computer class = no going on my website!!!#PO%&_!^#%
  2. Workers, are on vacation… no going on my website @w#($*t%^_!#
  3. The beach is very tempting, who’d wanna surf a website when they could be surfing? (well I know, yea you would wouldn’t you?  Me too… I know, I know)
  4. Computers Overheat… believe it or not, yea… this has nothing to do with anything.
  5. YOU! are neglecting your website, along with many other webmasters, and I can’t blame them… I’m also neglecting my websites… but it is just because of summer.  The obligations, the fun… the non-work atmosphere of it all..
I apologize for the acts of unprofessionalizm in this post…

I’m sorry…

I really am

Common Distractions (Going off task)

June 18th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in guides

Alright, lately my post count on the site has slightly… err hugely decreased because I’ve been going off task and neglecting all of my money making ventures. Yes, it’s true… I’m a webmaster for the money, but after not seeing any results for the work one has done, they should be expected to get bored and give up right? Well the getting bored part is right, your definitely going to get bored if your not raking in the dough. The problem is… it’s also expected that your not raking in the dough which means making money right in the beginning of your career.

Starting out in the web design/webmaster world means that you are practicing to really make it into the webmaster world of big business.  Yea, some people can start out making craploads of money because of their dedication, hard work, and determination… but that’s not me.  I’m easily sidetracked by those tiny things… what do you call that? ADD?  My attention is divided between my seemingly ineffectual online money making techniques, and online flash games… sports, friends and movies.  If your one of those guys/girls that can just get up and go… make it happen than good for you.  While me and the other people will just take time putting our socks on and won’t be getting up and going until we finish getting our shoes on… which we haven’t even started yet.

If your like me, and you’d rather be like one of the guys that starts out perfect… then abandon all that you love, quick!
