Black hat Tips Used by Google to Get Big: Revealed!!!

May 29th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Graphics, Hints and Tips, comic tips, guides

Ok, so how could any site get big like google without using some sort of black hat tips?  One possibility is link-baiting, using titles which suggest the content contains more information than it actually does.  Like for example, a title that enthralls the reader, and aggressively persuades them to read on.  So no, i don’t have any real black hat tips that Google Used to Get Big.  I doubt anyone could tell you what google really did to get big.

Unless they tell you the truth, like;

  • Google Invested a lot from the beginning
  • They have good products
  • They have Good Service
  • They have their own building IRL!

Ok, to continue the lesson… here’s a quick comic:

black hat tricks google used to get big, suddenly revealed

In order to get really popular articles, you have to write titles that attract the reader.  If your title is as boring as mine usually are, then nobody will go on to read the rest of your post.  So whether you’re tricking someone or not, you might want to try Link-Bait!

Step 2) Make a duplicate layer (you can use control + J)

Step 3) On the new layer, go to Filter > Blurr > Gaussian Blur

Step 4) Make the radius for the Gaussian Blur 5.0 and click Ok. Now your image should look something like this.

Step 5) In the layers panel, where it says Normal, drop down the menu and change it to Soft Light. You can play around with different effects and change the opacity to get it exactly the way you want it.

Finished Product:

Pretty Website

May 26th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Graphics, internet

A site with all ads isn’t going to do anybody any good. A site with good content, lots of advertisements spammed all over the place, and a horrible design also fails. I made another one of those little comic strip things to illustrate one of those situations… where a dude tries to make a site with nothing but advertisements. Obviously anybody who doesn’t have a reason to make their site is a complete whorebagel, and nothing will come of his site. Even with some financial backing, a site that looks like crap, simply won’t please its visitors.

Gotta have a good looking site

Website design is all about the new web 2.0 graphics, or at least something stimulating to the visual receptors in a visitors brain. I could search for something, get perfect results on a high pr domain, but if the website is an eyesore I’ll probably just look elsewhere. Not very useful, just make sure your site looks good, and preferably better than your competition.

Tips:

  • Avoid old website templates with poor graphics resolution.
  • Make sure to add some color, but keep in a specific color scheme
  • Don’t use table borders (they’re really ugly)
  • Try not to use tables at all
  • Not to many straight lines, square-y appearances are fail.

Adding Fonts for use in photoshop, word, and etc…

May 15th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Graphics

This is a question I was about to answer to someone on a forum, and then it started undergoing software updates.  I figure there may be some of you that don’t know how to do this and are just too lazy to read the tutorials that you could probably easily find on the website you got the font from!  So this is a tutorial on how to add fonts to your computer’s font database, so you could use them in photoshop, microsoft word, or whatever else you may feel like using a creative font in.  It’s not very in depth, but I really don’t think it needs to be in depth.  It doesn’t does it?

  1. Ok, so first your going to go to some free font website and download your font. (I prefer 1001fonts.com or dafont.com)
  2. Then your going to unzip the zip file they had you download, and move the actual font file (ttf, or whatever it is) into this directory on your computer.
    1. My computer
    2. Local Disc C
    3. Windows
    4. Fonts

See, it’s that simple… sorry for the post being so sort, but as I stated above, there is no point in the post being any longer than it is.  Now you should be able to use the new font you just put into your font folder.   Have a good time writing stuff in your new fonts!

How to add of Favicon to your Website

May 13th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in Graphics

I finally figured out how to add a favicon to my websites, and I think it’s really cool. The favicon for webjedis is the green W on the orange/tan square. If you have no idea at all what a favicon is, it’s the little 16×16 pixel picture that is displayed up on the left size of your browser address bar. In this enlightening post I will be teaching all of you eager webmasters how to add a favicon to your website, which is just another way of being unique!

  1. First of all your going to have to download the .ico plugin for photoshop, and put it in your photoshop’s file format folder. This site will show you how to do this, http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/ .
  2. Your favicon must be 16×16 for it to work, but that is a really small canvas to work on don’t you think? So try creating an image 64×64 pixels, which you can then resize to 16×16 later.
  3. Your design should be fairly simple since the favicon is so small, for webjedis the favicon is obviously just one letter, which makes it easy for visitors to see what it is.
  4. Now, after designing your favicon, resize it back to 16×16 and see if it you think it looks good, if not go back and try again. If it does look good though, then move on to the next step.
  5. Save your favicon as ‘favicon.ico’ , the browser won’t be able to read the favicon if it is named anything other than favicon.
  6. Now, upload your favicon to the root folder of your website. Usually this is just inside of the public_html folder.
  7. Now after refreshing your page, and maybe waiting a while your new favicon will show up!
  • For some browsers, they look for a direct link to the favicon. This is mainly for wordpress, and other blogs though, you have to edit the header part of your theme by putting this code in between your <html></html> tags.

<link rel=”Shortcut Icon” href=”/favicon.ico”>

How to Make Userbars

May 13th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in Graphics, People articles

*Written by Pyost*

I decided to put this tutorial on here, partly because this blog does have a graphics section, haha, and also because they are a great way to get backlinks, and increase the link’s visibility.  I myself could probably make a very novice userbar, but Pyost’s tutorial is great.

Lately userbars have become very popular with people. They are mostly putting them in their forum signatures, which is very practical. They are small, but can be used for linking.

A lot of userbars can be found at www.userbars.com and www.userbars.org, but sometimes people can’t find exactly what they want. This is why I have decided to make a tutorial on how to make you own userbar.

The pictures in this tutorial are made in Photoshop 6.0, so don’t be surprised if you’re Photoshop is different. I will be making a Thunderbird userbar.

First of all, you have to create a new picture. The dimensions are as shown in the picture below.

Next, you must choose you background color. It is best to use the gradient tool and the colors that would suit the thing you are making a bar for. In this case, I will be using a light blue color going to white (because of the Thunderbird logo).

It should look like this.

Now, we must add the diagonal lines seen in all the userbars. To do this, create a new picture, dimensions 6×6 pixels and transparent. Next, use the pencil tool on that picture to create a diagonal line like this.

When you draw that, go to Edit -> Define Pattern and choose the pattern name. Now go back to the first picture and the Pattern Stamp Tool in order to put lines into you picture. Since the lines are too bold, I would advise you to lower the opacity. I use 15% myself, but it’s up to you to decide. After doing that, you get something like this.

Now it’s time to add the logo to the picture. The logo must have transparent background, so when you put it it should look like this.

Now we’ve got only two things left. The first one is to add text to the userbar. For this, most people use the Visitor -BRK- font. That’s what I’m going to use, too. When you choose the font tool, choose Palettes and do the following. Set the font size to 10pt, turn of anti aliasing, and increase the character spacing to 25. When you write the text, use the stroke option to create a black or white 1 pixel border, depending on the font color. Here’s what you should get.

Then, you should add the elliptic transparent white part. In order to do that, choose the Ellipse Tool, select Create Filled Region and set the opacity to 30% or less to get the best quality. Create a new ellipse with this tool so that it’s bottom part is located in the top of the picture.

The final thing to do is to add a 1 pixel border to the whole picture, and do it with around 20% opacity. I hope that there is no need to explain this. And here is the product – Thunderbird userbar.
