Why Sex is Epic Win

June 2nd, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Hints and Tips, Life of Slice?, guides, internet

Sexy images, commercials, and even suggestive phrasiology can be the key to a great advertising campaign. Although not always necessary, for most products, you’ll find that when associated with sex, they sell better! It’s my belief that every human being thinks at least a little bit like I do, and when I see an advertisement with a good looking female posing half nude on the internet. I’m probably going to click on the advertisement, even if it’s just to see more.

The Go Daddy Girl

I’m sure that for everyone, one of the most obvious companies that uses sex to appeal to it’s customers is Godaddy. A web hosting company and domain registrar that almost every webmaster is familiar with. Despite the constant foul reviews Godaddy get’s on the internet, I constantly hear of people that use it. The godaddy girl is just so hot, it makes their whole campaign a little more irresistable.

Sure, any company that spends money on commercials is going to get some bonus customers. But, which commercial do you think is going to get the most followers. A professional commercial, with a guy in a suit telling you about all of the positive features of their web hosting company, or a commercial with a smokin’ hot babe telling you to use her web host. I don’t think she even tells you to use godaddy, she just say… Go Daddy.

If that turned any of you onto godaddy, I apologize… don’t use them for your web host or domain registrar. Bluehost is a much better host, and namecheap is by far the best domain registrar. Neither of which have the advantage of sexy advertisements.

Sex doesn’t have to be your advertising campaign in order to get people interested in your website. It could be a simple article, or tidbit of content about sex that leads users on to the rest of your content. For example, this post could be the turning point in vital pixel’s streak of poor-traffic. Of course I have no idea, since the post isn’t published. But, judging by the way things usually play out… I assume it will be.

On the other hand, sex can be your whole advertising campaign, and what your website is about. Sex and Porn and the two top searched terms on the internet. So that tells you what people are interested in. I’m not even going to bother calling them pervs either, everyone has done it.

An photo blog with sexy images on it, is ten times more likely to succeed than a photo blog about fancy cars. I think most people can imagine, that cars are a big market in today’s world. Sexy, nudity, and suggestive art prevail though, and don’t let anyone tell you it doesn’t.

Advertising campaigns for food using lewd videos and commercials is also common. Here is one commercial for burger king in the UK.

Just try incorporating a sexy picture into your website. Use a good looking female spokesperson for your next business. Hooters will be my last examples, probably one of the most successful chain of restaurant’s to ever exist. Why do you think this is so? Because women are just decoration when it comes to marketing, and it works pretty damn well.

Pretty Website

May 26th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Graphics, internet

A site with all ads isn’t going to do anybody any good. A site with good content, lots of advertisements spammed all over the place, and a horrible design also fails. I made another one of those little comic strip things to illustrate one of those situations… where a dude tries to make a site with nothing but advertisements. Obviously anybody who doesn’t have a reason to make their site is a complete whorebagel, and nothing will come of his site. Even with some financial backing, a site that looks like crap, simply won’t please its visitors.

Gotta have a good looking site

Website design is all about the new web 2.0 graphics, or at least something stimulating to the visual receptors in a visitors brain. I could search for something, get perfect results on a high pr domain, but if the website is an eyesore I’ll probably just look elsewhere. Not very useful, just make sure your site looks good, and preferably better than your competition.

Tips:

  • Avoid old website templates with poor graphics resolution.
  • Make sure to add some color, but keep in a specific color scheme
  • Don’t use table borders (they’re really ugly)
  • Try not to use tables at all
  • Not to many straight lines, square-y appearances are fail.

Fun on the Internet

May 22nd, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in internet

There are plenty of ways to have fun on the internet. Certain way can be more addictive than others, so you might not want to get into them at all. You could have your face plastered to the computer screen watching videos on youtube, or playing games on addictinggames if you’re not careful.

One of the more subtle ways to have fun on the internet, is to browse forums that relate to things you are interested in. Or one of my favorites… LOL Cats

cat
more cat pictures

Icanhascheezburger is a great place to wind down with some funny pictures.  I often times tell myself I’m going to start doing something else and end up clicking to view the next page of funny cats.  Of course when enough is enough I can stop, and I don’t lose track of time like I would if I was playing some MMO. (like World of Warcraft *Cough).
Of course you can have fun on the internet with a simple search.  It’s not hard at all to find something fun to do on the internet.  If I were you, I’d probably love just sitting on Vital Pixel and re-reading all of the posts until I had them memorized.  More realistically though, people enjoy social networking/bookmarking, news, arcades, videos, LOL Cats, forums, and prank sites like peter answers.
From your loyal VP :)

Yahoo Buzz

May 21st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in internet

What is Yahoo Buzz?:

The Web’s most remarkable stories, determined by people like you. Stories are ranked based on your votes, emails, and searches.

Yahoo Buzz is yahoo’s new social bookmarking sort of website.  Where popular articles are voted on, and publishers can get loads of burst traffic.  Unfortunately the traffic possibilities of Yahoo Buzz are very similar to that off Digg.  You must be on the front page to get a lot of hits, and the flow of traffic is cut short once your article leaves the front.  Fortunately if you wrote a good post people would be bookmarking your blog and coming back to it later.  Also, if you continue to write good posts you could be on the front page of yahoo buzz for quite a while.

The problem with yahoo buzz, is that smaller blogs don’t really have a chance to get their articles popular.  Users can either vote for an article directly from the blog the article came from, or they can find the article on yahoo buzz and vote for it there.  Usually this would mean that the smaller blogs would never get any of the traffic, but their is a possibility that a great article could be spotted and made popular.

Yahoo Buzz pulls in content from publisher partners across the Web.

You must be a partner with Yahoo Buzz in order to get your content pulled, but they don’t accept everybody.  In fact, I gave them my email adress hoping to be invited to join, but I haven’t been yet.  Maybe I won’t, do too… crappy blog posts? :)

Yahoo buzz also has a widget, you can put on the side of your blog.  The widget contains all of the most popular articles, so users reading your blog can click some link and go to a different blog with the popular post on it.  Not exactly something I would use on one of my blogs, but it’s nice if your article is currently featured on the widget.

Get Paid to Search?

May 21st, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in internet

I just saw a post on digitalpoint stating that you get paid to search when using this site.  I just signed up for the site today, and it looks legitimate, but I can’t say anything for sure just yet.  The site is called my search funds, and it looks like it is paying you to use ask.com.  (From what the people on DP say, but I still have my Google header above all my searches for some reason).

There are some people that seem a bit skeptical about the legalities of the site though.  They say that it’s against ask.com’s terms of agreement because they are incentivise’ing clicks.  To me it seems completely legal though, maybe I’m doing something wrong though? :) (wouldn’t be surprised)

Also, if you do sign up and notice that your searches are going up but your money earned isn’t going up.  They have somethings that tells you why it’s like that.  It’s actually located right under where your revenue would be showing up, so it’s hard to miss… I’ll show it anyways :D.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL SEARCH REVENUE IS ADDED ONE WORKING DAY IN ARREARS THEREFORE THE EARNINGS FIGURE IS NOT UP TO DATE. THIS FIGURE DOES NOT INCLUDE REVENUE FROM FRIENDS - FOR FRIENDS REVENUE CLICK HERE.

nyways, It’s basically handing out free money for using their search engine, which is fine in my book.  They give you easy instructions on setting up your search box, and you might as well set it as your homepage if you’re going to make it a habit.  Remember you can always go back to your old search engine if you don’t like!  I’ll try and give a follow up post to this later, once I’ve seen more about the site.

The Pirate Bay is Totally Leet

May 17th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Legal, internet

Source: TheTorrentFreak
(the source of this information is ThetorrentFreak, but it’s not their original post)

The chief investigating officer in the Pirate Bay case who was revealed as recently working for Warner Bros, has been reported to the police. Yesterday the Pirate Bay crew filed “at least” three complaints, and further people have been reported for bribing the police.

ThePirateBay.org is under scrutiny by many large companies. These companies are all mad at TPB because they host torrent files of content that the companies could be selling. Since TPB is located in Sweden I think, none of the files that are hosted their really give US companies any jurisdiction.

The Police that will be investigating The Pirate Bay has worked for Warner Bros before, and it is said that he will return to work for Warner Bros after the case is done with.

Various media and anti-piracy agencies all want a large piece of the Pirate Bay crew and between them are demanding millions of dollars in compensation, a point that is contested by Brokep: “In fact, they owe us a shitload of money. All the time we’ve spent on being called criminals and hunted down by private investigators and getting our stuff stolen by them - it’s gonna be expensive for them.”

Brokep says their initial target is police officer and IT forensics expert Jim Keyzer, who they clearly see as corrupt:

“We reported the police officer yesterday. For a lot of different reasons, at least three criminal complaints were filed. But you know what? It’s illegal to bribe the police as well. So more people have been reported to the police.”

Brokep is clearly in defiant mood: “So who’s the fucking criminals really? Hey Hollywood assholes - Be afraid. Very afraid. The law is coming to serve justice.”

The Pirate Bay crew say that when the case is over, they will demand compensation for all the time and money they have invested in this “media circus”.

Juicy Campus

May 17th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Life of Slice?, World, internet

Apparently another guy was arrested over making an obviously fake threat on the internet today.  The threat was Made on JuicyCampus, which is a site where kids/teens can gossip about their schools I guess.  Something I would never use, but I guess it’s pretty popular (It is now! lol).  I know threats are wrong, and you shouldn’t do it in real life, nor on the internet… but I definitely think that the people should be given a little more slack when it comes to the internet.

Despite school shootings being horrible, I’m certain mosts teens have made some wise crack about pulling a VT, and even elaborated on that.

This person was arrested for writing:

“I wonder if i could shut down the school by saying I’m going to shoot as many people as i can in my second class tomorrow.I hope I get more than 50,”

George So says, and then goes on to add

“For liability reasons and IP tracking I won’t leave it at that. But seriously, this site is rediculous [sic], if it got big, and someone put the effort into writing a big long serious suicide note informing all readers that he would kill over 100 kids, they could shut down the school. Nice.”

To me that doesn’t even sound like a threat, but the police thought that it had to be taken seriously.  Obviously with all of the recent school shootings, they needed to be careful.  George So’s colleague told the campus police about the post, and the campus police then told the city police.  George So ended up being arrested, and his apartment was searched (where no weapons were found).

So… long story short, much adieu about nothing.

Funniest Quotes on the Net P.1

May 16th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in internet

Ok, there are certain quotes on the internet that I just cannot stand to not-share with anyone.  Meaning that I have a few hilarious quotes that I must share with you.

The first quote being:

The name commands respect. Who is this Drieick? Drieick is a man’s man. Women want him, men want to be him.
You ask yourself why you get up in the morning. Is it because the birds sing, the flowers grow and the sun shines? Is it the freshly brewed cup of hot java waiting for your emergence on a crisp dawn, or perhaps the daily call to arms? Nay. Tis but one reason: Drieick.

You can find the original forum thread this quote was found on Here.
The context of the quote is… a forum alias talking about another forum alias.
Klashboards is by far home to some of the greatest quotes on the internet, and TheFondler, is usually the one that posts the funny stuff.  Of course other members have their moments as well.
Later in that thread TheFondler posts
His prose moves like water. Fluid. Willowy. Graceful. Wispy as the summer breeze. He’s possessed of a fawn’s elegant neck and even his tiptoes would remind you of gazelles treading in protracted strides. He’s genuine, timid to a fault, oblivious to his iridescent beauty. It’s quite stirring; it’s quite disarming. Love is a peculiar thing. It transcends understanding. It rises above the cruelty of things. It whispers “…..Drieick….”
I honestly think this ‘TheFondler’ has an aura of nonsensical genius.
Now, the third and final quote has to come from memory (I apologize) because I can’t re-find the quote on this internet.  But I think it was from the basilmarket forums.
I hope that one day I am able to see a canadian.  What do canadians look like anyways?  Maybe I have seen one and not noticed?
Just the stupidity of this person, to post something that suggests that canadians don’t look like any other human-being seems hilarious to me.
