Top 10 Firefox Add-Ons

June 1st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Resources, Worthless

Here is my list of the top 10 Firefox add-ons. Some pertain more heavily to webmasters, but I consider them good tools for everybody that browses the internet. Each one of these add-ons have separate uses, and can make your internet browsing experience more enjoyable, or easier than it already is.

  1. Digg Firefox Extension 0.4.3:The Digg Firefox extension allows you to interact with Digg (http://www.digg.com) and see information about the web page you are currently viewing while you use Firefox.
I just recently started using this extension, and I’ve already experienced it’s awesomeness. Without even downloading it, it’s obvious that it’s going to be a great add-on. For any site that doesn’t include a digg button, you’ve now got one built into your web browser!
  2. PicLens: Full-Screen, 3D — PicLens transforms your browser into a visually stunning experience for enjoying online photos and videos. Our interactive “3D Wall” lets you effortlessly search and zoom your way around thousands of images and YouTube videos faster and more immersively than ever before. Demo here
PicLens is one of the top most downloaded add-ons on the firefox website. Why it’s awesome; it makes it easy to find what you’re looking for on image and video sites. The webmaster feature is great too, if you’re thinking of installing a photoblog, than you should probably download PicLens.
  3. Wizz RSS: A constantly improving RSS and Atom feed reader. It is fairly powerful, feature rich and is well supported.
Right now, it’s the best RSS reader out there, there is a few bugs, but hopefully they will be sorted out in later versions.
  4. FireFix 0.7.6: Learns and corrects mistyped web addresses typed in the address bar
I find this plugin pretty useful, it only makes a small difference, and if you never make any spelling errors, than it’s useless. I’m pretty sure tons of people on the internet make a typo when spelling google though, so it’s nice to have something correct our errors for us.
  5. Others Online: Real people. Online now. Relevant to you. Discover people relevant to your Web browsing and other interests, on every page you visit, while you’re signed in. See what you have in common, their blog or Web site, and online status — even chat or email users privately. The more you use the toolbar, the more you find in common with others — and the more traffic you earn to your site!
Not really sure how this works to get more traffic to your site, but it sounds cool, and looks good. It’s also pretty fun.
  6. Video Download Helper: The easy way to download Web videos from hundreds of YouTube-like sites.
This works also for audio and picture galleries.
Self-explanatory really, most people have heard of these types of plugins. Which make available the option to download videos off of youtube and other sites.
  7. DashBlog: DashBlog lets you quickly collect videos, images, text/quotes, songs and screen-captures from any web page and publish them to your blog (word press, blogger/blogspot, tumblr) and/or twitter.
I like the other features of this add-on, which allow you to take screen captures, and then draw/comment on the pictures. The add-on basically speeds up the usual process of copying/pasting, or downloading and reuploading.
  8. StumbleUpon: StumbleUpon discovers web sites based on your interests, learns what you like and brings you more.
Stumbleupon is currently my favorite firefox plugin. It’s gotten loads of traffic to my websites, and is second only to digg in that category. It’s also fun to stumble around different sites in your interest zones.
  9. Simple Mail: With Simple Mail you can get notified, read and write email messages inside Firefox.
This is useful for me, because without it, I’d be constantly opening up my mail client to read/write/receive messages. This plug in makes reading your mail a lot more practical.
  10. tab effect Tab Effect: Add effects when current tab is changed…
Just a fun little addon, so you can be visually stunned when changing your tabs.

And that… is my top 10
Fireshot get’s an honorable mention, because I almost listed it.

Mixx.com

May 25th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Resources, Reviews

If there was ever a time to join a social networking site, it’s now, and the site is Mixx. Mixx is a fairly new social networking site that is constantly growing. At the moment it’s not very hard for users to get their articles to the front page, but plenty of traffic still comes from the site. Mixx definitely isn’t small, but in comparison to digg you could say it is.

If you sign up for Mixx now, and start building up your profile, then you have a great chance to become of of the power users of the site. We know that many people use social networking sites to boost their website’s traffic, and I’m one of them. I signed up to Mixx hoping that I could become one of the top content submitters on there. (this will be my first post submitted)

I created a group called young webmasters, so if anyone wants to join then feel free to. You don’t have to be young, or even a webmaster, you just have to be someone on mixx :D. (more specifically in that niche).

Tips and Reminders:

  • Build up your friends. friends vote for their friends topics.
  • Don’t ignore your friends. You shall get what you give :).
  • Vote for other articles besides your own, this way people become fans of yours for finding and submitting good content from all over.

Happy Mixxing :D

Make, Take (some), Invest, Repeat

May 17th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Resources

I’ve recently learned/confirmed the golden rule of making money, and maybe getting rich. The method of make,take, invest, and repeat is a surefire way to get/gain wealth. From the online webmaster to the average-everyday-entrepreneur, this method holds true. I’ll elaborate a bit more on the idea;

  • Make:
You make your base amount of money by working at an average job. For the internet guru, this would mean forum pay-per-post, blog reviews, link sales. (Of course the second two things must be built up to). You get the idea though, you have to make some money the old fashioned way, with hard work.
  • Take:
Next, you take 90% of your earnings, and use them to support yourself. Make sure you’re never living worse than you can bear just because you’re trying to save up for something. With the 10% you’ve saved from the money you made at work, you’re going to…
  • Invest:
You invest that 10% that you saved in something that can start bringing in an income. This could mean stocks, promoting a website. What you want to make sure to do is invest in someone who knows what they’re doing. Don’t pay the icecream man, to give you some of the diamonds that he traded to a starving kid for an icecream. (First of all, because this would never happen, Second… wtf did a starving kid have diamonds). Anyways, the point is… you invest in someone who knows exactly what they’re doing, and someone who will definitely help you earn a profit.
  • Repeat:
You must constantly repeat this method. You will have different streams of money coming in, and with other people doing the work. If you help to sponsor someone with their ventures, (someone who knows what they’re doing) then you will end up earning a greater income. Your income will always continue to grow as long as you take 10% of your earnings, and spend it on a new investment.

I actually got the jst of that from some money-making CD my stepdad owns. It’s common-knowledge though, the only problem is the fact that it’s somewhat hard to follow. You have to have some strength to hold back on spending extra, or trying to save to much.

Hopefully this helps some people out? :D

TechnoRati

May 16th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Resources

Technorati.com is a great site for blog owners to get their site known. I suggest signing up at their site if you think your blog has any valuable information. Or any sort of information that you want other people to read. Without technorati… your blog is like a lincoln log without some little kid there building something out of you. Like a dinner with nobody to kick itself. Anyways, I’m sure you get the point by now.

Technorati is a good blog-master tool to help get your content known

Useful Forums

May 16th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Resources

Alright, I’m going to list some great forums, and what they’re useful for. (Usually pertaining to webmaster’s unless it’s one of my forums). I’ll try to list the forums in order of PR, and help you to determine which ones are good for signature links.

Signature Links are a great way to build up backlinks, and add pagerank to your websites. The higher the pr of the forum you have signature links on, and the more posts you make, the better the boost your sig link will give you. Hence you will become higher ranked in search engines, and ultimatize your SEO awesomeness.

DigitalPoint Forums: PR7
Digital point has been the most useful forum for me in my webmaster-ing career. Atleast so far that is. They have a huge member base, and all the better for receiving help. You can find tons of guides on there, searching the forums will usually give you better results than google. I definitely recommend you sign up for digitalpoint forums if you are an aspiring webmaster.

V7N: The forums are ranked at PR5
V7N is somewhat of a dying forum, but it used to be equal to digitalpoint’s greatness. It has a lot of members, but few are very active now. You are allowed to have signature links once you get 50 posts… which is somewhat of a crappy deal. Despite V7N being a dying forum, there is still quite a bit of useful information on there.

SitePoint: PR 4 (forums)
Many people use sitepoint to auction off their sites, and seek advise. Sitepoint is also a webhosting company (which i advise against).

Direct Advertisement: PR 0
Direct Advertisement is a forum built to help owners of websites, and forums (more specifically). It includes many free services for advertising websites. The more members direct advertisement has, the more potential members you get when you advertise your site there. Anyways, despite being PR0, the forum is more active than all the other sites I have listed here, other than Digitalpoint.

SEOChat: PR 4
A great forum for finding information on SEO (Search Engine Optimization), although there isn’t many people to talk to any more. Again, a good place for putting links in your signature.

I’ll probably update this list of useful forums later, if you have one that is either high PR, or high on traffic and users, or contains lots and lots of useful information. Feel free to comment on this post and I can add you to the list.

Arcadem Pro

February 18th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Resources, Reviews

I used to own an arcade that I spent hours on manually updating all of the games, and templates in dreamweaver.  I searched for reasonable, and professional looking arcade scripts but could find none.  I have since sold that website and started over again with kevinsarcade.com.  Kevins arcade is running arcadem pro, which can be purchased from agaresmedia.com.  Arcadem pro seems to have the best value out of all the payed arcade scripts out there, and also offers a free version which works great.  I’ve gotten over 2,000 games in about an hour of work, and decided on a great site design from their premade selection.  Whereas, on my old site… it took days of work to get just a few hundred games on the site.

Agares offers plenty of support on their forums, where other members and admins help out with any problems you may have.  They have game packages for purchase, and the script comes with a free 500 free games.  If you are planning on buying an arcade script, I suggest agaresmedia’s arcadem pro.

list of forums in order of pr (bringin back the good ol’ posts)

November 8th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Resources

This is a list of forums that allow you to put links in your signature. I built the list after searching around for quite awhile >_<, so I hope you guys enjoy it. A link back from anybody who’s forum is listed here would be greatly appreciated, although I do not require it. Also, if anyone decides to use the list, please link back to this article, or just webjedis.com and that would be great. I’ll try to keep this updated, just comment the post if you see something that needs to be updated/removed, or if you have something else to add.

I decided to move the old webmaster resource to an actual page on our site… instead of just a post.

Anyways, here’s the good ol’ link :D.
